Field Day to the Max!

I can't even describe how much fun we had. The pictures say it all.

TAKING LEARNING TO A NEW LEVEL!

It looks like play, but we are sharpening our critical thinking skills!

Things to remember:
Field day is 5/25/11. You must have documentation that you passed the background check to join us. So far, none of my parents have shown me that documentation.
Awards Day is 5/31/11 at 1:00 in the afternoon. Every child in my class will cross the stage to get an award.

The Three Bears

Our Pretend and Learn Center has become The Three Bears' Cottage. We are having a great time dramatizing this story. Mrs. Snipes has found Three Bears books, flannel board stories and Three Bears magnets. Every center has something that relates to this story. I will try tomorrow to post a video for you.

Upcoming Information

Your child's homework for this week is to complete the outline of the body that i sent home on 4/29/11. It should show the job your child would like to do when he or she grows up. Please comlete it with extra material. Drawing and coloring are not enough. It is due on 5/6/11.
Field day has been moved to 5/25/11. If you are planning on participating, please complete the volunteer form on the DISD webpage under parents.
We will not have a picnic on 5/21/11.
The awards program will be on 5/31/11 in the afternoon. I will let you know the time when I am given that information. All children will receive an award.

We Play To Learn!

This may look like play, but we are really learning. These are the activities that will prepare your child for Kindergarten.

Fun Times in PKB!

I want to share a few things with you. First, the egg hunt was wonderful. We had so much fun. Check out the pictures!
One of the pictures is of the homework from this past week. I stapled them on the wall outside the classroom. I was amazed! What a great job!
Homework For 4/25/11-4/29/11
I sent home 5 stapled pages. I want you to make an animal book. The first page is the cover. I would like a picture and a sentence on each page. Each animal picture must be a photograph or a picture from a magazine. I do not want the children to draw and color a picture. This book needs to be more than that. Thanks for everything you do!

Painting Eggs!

Today we painted eggs. I thought the kids would have a hard time with this activity and we would end up doing it for them. No! They loved it and they did a beautiful job with the eggs (hard boiled). The colors are gorgeous. Look for your child's egg to come home tonight. I don't think you should leave it in the backpack. Your child can peel and eat the egg.

Comment Section

Many of you have told me you tried to leave comments on the blog and it didn't post. I have also had this problem. This is what you need to do. Go to www.blogger.com and make a google account (free). When you write a comment, look under the comment section and choose google account. Click to post the comment. You will need to sign in to your google account before your comment will post. It worked for me. Let me know if you continue to have problems. I may need to move to another website.

Homework for 4/18/11-4/22/11

The homework for this week is to make a book entitled "Things I See Outside." Please complete 4 pages and a cover. I have already sent home stapled paper for you to use. Please make sure you add something special on each page. It is not enough to just draw and color. Make sure you have written at least one sentence on each page.

Also, PK Round-up is 4/22/11 from 8:00am-12:00pm. If you know of a child that will be 4 on or before 9/1/11, they may come and sign up for Pre-Kindergarten. Please bring shot records, social security card, birth certificate, driver's license, and proof that you live in Dallas (utility bill or lease). You must also bring a paystub to show the income for your home. We need the paystubs for everyone who contributes money to that household.

Rock Collections

Congratulations and thank you to those of you who helped your child make a rock collection. The children really enjoyed this activity and they are very proud of their collections.

HOMEWORK FOR 4/18/11-4/22/11:
Please look in the folder for the stapled pages. Your child needs to make a book next week about things you see outside. The book should be at least 5 pages and that includes the cover. Each page of the book should have a picture and at least one sentence. You can help your child write the sentences, or your child can tell you what they would like to say and you can write it. Drawing and coloring the pictures is not enough. Please find something to attach to each page. The title of the book should be THINGS WE SEE OUTSIDE. The book is due to Mrs. Snipes on 4/22/11.

The date for the Awards Program will be 5/31/11 in the afternoon. As soon as I know the time, I will let you know. Every child will walk across the stage and receive an award.

April 11, 2011 Important Information

HOMEWORK FOR 4/11/11-4/15/11 Your child needs to make a rock collection. It is due 4/15/11. Please find 12 rocks. Place them in an egg carton. One rock should be in each space. Please sort the rocks however your child would like to do so. For example, all the smooth rocks on one end and the bumpy ones on the other end. There are many different ways to sort the rocks. Let your child decide how the rocks will be sorted after you look at the rocks. A little glue in the bottom might hold the rock down. You do not have to identify the rocks. We will do that in class. PTA Program We will be performing "Nature's Wash Day" on 4/12/11 for PTA. Please have your child at school by 4:30pm.

April 7, 2011 First Blog Post

Dear Parents, This is our first blog posting. I have created this blog to help keep you updated on things that are happening in our classroom and at Thomas Tolbert Elementary. Ultimately, I would like to post pictures and videos. I want you to feel as if you are in the classroom with us. Please feel free to comment and let me know what you think about this new adventure. Here are some critical dates you need to know about. PTA 4/12/11 @5:00pm. Please have your child at school by 4:30pm. PK Round-up 4/21/11. If you have children or know of children who will be 4 by 9/1/11, please let them know about round-up. This is to sign up for Pre-K for the 2011-2012 school year. Please bring shot records, social security card and a birth certificate. Yoga 4/29/11 We have a person coming to the school to do a yoga class with PK and Kinder. Please make sure your child wears tennis shoes and shorts or slacks on this day. Field Day 5/6/11 We will have games and other activities outside to do with the children on this day. I will give you more details as I get them. Picnic 5/21/11 PK and Kinder will be going outside to have a picnic on this day. I will provide you with more info on this as I get it.
